Dan Shimmerman
President and Chief Executive Officer
Varicent Software Incorporated

Dan Shimmerman is a founder of Varicent Software and serves as the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer. Dan is focused on growing Varicent, broadening its technologies, and strengthening its culture. Prior to founding Varicent, Dan gained more than 15 years of experience in the accounting, sales and technology fields. He worked most recently with Clarity Systems Ltd. As an accountant and consultant he had the opportunity to work with world class clients including Deutsche Bank, SAFECO Insurance, Aetna Insurance, Lincoln Financial Group and Jim Beam Brands. Dan holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from York University and an MBA from the University of Toronto. Dan is also a chartered accountant.

Marc Altshuller
Executive Vice President, Worldwide Field Operations
Varicent Software Incorporated

Marc Altshuller is a founder of Varicent Software and serves as the Executive Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations. In this role Marc is responsible for expanding Varicent’s North American direct and partner sales.

Marc gained more than 8 years of experience working in executive positions with various corporate performance management software companies prior to founding Varicent. He served both as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for PROPHIX and the Vice President of Marketing for Clarity Systems. At Clarity he became the first non-founding member of the company’s management team, establishing the company’s marketing department and launching their first user conference.

Marc holds a BBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University in Toronto.

Eric Byunn
Partner, Head of Software
FTV Capital

Eric is Partner, Head of Software for FTV Capital and has been with the firm since 2002. Prior to joining FTV Capital, Eric was Director of Online Services at myCFO, a start-up wealth management firm. He joined myCFO from America Online, where he held several roles including management of Netscape’s Personal Finance Channel. Prior to the acquisition of Netscape by AOL, Eric led product management for the Netscape Navigator browser. He has also worked at Microsoft and at McKinsey & Company, where he primarily worked with telecommunications clients.

Eric received an AB summa cum laude from Harvard University, where he focused on economics and computer science, and an MBA from Stanford University where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar.

Robert Antoniades
Partner
Clairmont Capital

Robert Antoniades oversees and manages the RBC Venture Partners' portfolio on behalf of Clairmont Capital. Robert joined RBC Venture Partners as a Managing Director in 2004 and led direct investments in a broad range of software and technology companies ranging from enterprise software to information security and from insurance applications to sales and trading platforms. Robert also used his expertise in venture capital to assist in the development and commercialization of emerging technologies developed within RBC.

Prior to RBC, Robert was a Vice President at BMO Nesbitt Burns Equity Partners and Executive Director of CIBC Capital Partners' Silicon Valley office in Menlo Park where he collectively made investments in financial services software, internet service providers, enterprise and internet software, e-healthcare, wireless application development, security products, optical networking and semiconductor companies, among others. Robert has over 14 years of venture capital investing experience.

Robert currently serves as a board member or observer for several of his investee companies. Additionally, Robert has a broad base of transaction and industry experience as a capital markets professional. Robert has a BBA from Wilfrid Laurier University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst, a fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute and a Certified Investment Manager.

Derek Smyth
Partner
EdgeStone

Derek joined EdgeStone as Partner in February 2004. Prior to joining EdgeStone he was President and CEO of Bridgewater Systems Corporation. Before joining Bridgewater Systems, he held the position of COO at Ironside Technologies, where he was responsible for the overall direction of global business development, marketing, sales operations and product development. As COO, Derek grew the business from start-up phase to a multi-national organization, and a team of 14 to 240, while raising $72M in private equity. Previously, he held a number of positions with Bay Networks Canada and Radius Inc.

Derek serves on the Board of Directors of CiRBA, pVelocity, RedMere Technology and Shoplogix. Past EdgeStone portfolio companies with which Derek was involved include Decision Dynamics (TSX-V:DDY), Maximum Throughput, RSS Solutions (sold to Visiprise), Solace Systems and Varicent Software. He holds a B.A. (Commerce and Economics), University of Toronto and completed the Enterprise Program for Growing Companies (EPGC), Stanford University.

Janet Perna
Former Senior Executive
IBM

Prior to her retirement from IBM, Janet Perna was one of the highest ranking executives within the IBM Software Group where she was the General Manager of Information Management Solutions. 

Under Janet’s leadership, the IBM information management business grew into a multi-billion dollar business, with focus on delivering products to help customers manage their information assets, including database management, content and records management, information integration, and business intelligence software.  In this position, she led over 4,000 people, including 3,300 in research and development, customer support, and services in five laboratories worldwide.  During her 31 year career with IBM, Janet held a number of executive positions in IBM’s software business and earned numerous honors and awards including her induction into the Women in Technology International Hall of Fame. She also served on IBM's Worldwide Management Council, a 50-member advisory board to the chairman.

Upon her retirement from IBM, Janet joined the Board of Directors of Cognos, which was acquired by IBM in 2008.  She is currently a member of the Board of Directors for Deltek Inc, Varicent Software Incorporated, and Acresso Software, and is a member of the Foundation Board of Directors and co-Chair of the Fund for Science and Technology at the State University of New York at Oneonta. Janet is an active volunteer with the Connecticut Chapter of the American Red Cross and is the founder of the Perna Foundation for HOPE.

David Mahoney
Management Consultant and Private Investor

David currently serves on the Boards of several software companies including Centage Inc., Vaultus Inc. (Executive Chairman and Investor), Livedata, Inc. (Chairman and Investor), Varicent Software Incorporated, and Extraprise Inc.

In March of 2003 David became President and CEO of Applix Inc, an analytics software company where he had been a board member since 1991. Applix was acquired by Cognos Inc. in October 2007 for $350M representing a 20 times increase in market value in less than five years. He has also acted as Chief Executive for Zeemote Inc., Verbind, Inc., LeadingSide, Inc. (formerly Dataware Technologies, Incorporated), and Sovereign Hill Software Inc. In 1983 David co-founded Banyan Systems, Inc. and served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer until May, 1997.  From 1973 through 1983, David was the Director of Communication Product Development at Data General.
